2012 was a big year for Parking Lot Movies!
We premiered the 10-part episode web series, "Wingman," in January. The series aired weekly for 12 weeks, including a gag reel and trailers.
The series was a blast to make. The cast and crew had a great time. There were initial plans to continue the series, but we really had set a goal to move into feature films. It was, however, a great proving ground for us. I personally was able to develop my filmmaker skills and learn a lot through trial and error. The series starred Casey Nash as Wingman and Bryan Siebers as Peregrine Falcon. Other cast members were Barb Trzcinski, Rachelle Kirk, Jason Raymaker, Adam Schlack, and Jordan Wagner.

From there, we moved into features, producing our first film, "Charlie's Place," which was an official selection in Louisville's International Festival of Film.
Casey Nash was again in the lead role, playing Charlie Caine, a bitter and lonely young man who must make life or death decisions as he drives his mother cross country where she intends to have physician-assisted suicide. Debra Barkholtz played his mother, Margaret Caine. Nicolette Sims, who also was featured in Wingman, played Charlie's high school sweetheart who comes back into his life.
Synopsis: Charlie's estranged mother appears after five years to ask him to drive her to Oregon for physician-assisted suicide, as well as donate his kidney to his older brother Paul. It's a journey of forgiveness and restoration with moments of laughter and great sadness as Charlie tries to find his place in the world. Co-starring Macy Francke, Bryan Siebers, and Rebecca Burr. Written and Directed by James R. Lawrence.
The second feature, "The Switchman" was a LOT easier to film. It was shot in six or seven days total. While I planned the framework and storyline, complete with locations and scene requirements, it was completely ad libbed by the cast. The result was a very naturalistic and realistic thriller.
Synopsis: A small group of investigators search for the Switchman, an urban legen, who is said to haunt the railways. Starring Macy Francke, James Lawrence, Kelly Peterson, Elizabeth Smith, and Casey Nash. Written and Directed by James R. Lawrence.
Plans are in the works for a third feature, which will be shot in 2013. Also a thriller, "Retreat" pays homage to both Alfred Hitchcock and Agatha Christie. Women are being murdered off at a women's retreat in strange and terrifying ways. It has lots of twists and turns.
So, 2012 is basically in the books, just in time for the end of the Mayan calendar!

It took two months to shoot, another month to edit, and premiered in Louisville, Kentucky in October.
